Selectora (selectora.io) — Last updated: 12 July 2026
Selectora ("we", "us", "our") provides an embeddable product recommendation quiz widget for online stores. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and what rights you have. It covers three groups of people: visitors to selectora.io, store owners who create a Selectora account, and shoppers who interact with a Selectora quiz on a merchant's store.
1. Who we are
Selectora is operated by its founder, Bless, and is based in the United Kingdom. For any questions about this policy or your data, contact us at privacy@selectora.io.
2. Data we collect
- Visitors to selectora.io. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how our website is used. This collects device and browser information, approximate location (city level), pages visited, and interaction events. IP addresses are processed by Google to derive location and are not stored by us. We do not use this data to identify you personally.
- Store owners (account holders). When you create an account we collect your name, email address, store name, store URL, and the ecommerce platform you use. If you apply to our pilot programme we also collect the information you provide in the application form. If you purchase a paid plan, payment is handled by our payment provider; we do not store your card details.
- Shoppers using the quiz widget. When a shopper completes a Selectora quiz on a merchant's store, we process their quiz answers and basic technical data (browser type, device type, timestamp) in order to generate product recommendations and provide the merchant with aggregate analytics (for example, completion rates and popular answers). Quiz answers are not linked to a shopper's identity unless the merchant's quiz explicitly asks for contact details, in which case that data is collected on the merchant's behalf.
3. Our role: controller and processor
For data about visitors to selectora.io and store-owner accounts, we are the data controller.
For quiz data collected on a merchant's store, the merchant is the data controller and Selectora acts as a data processor, handling the data only to provide the quiz and recommendation service to that merchant. Shoppers with questions about how a specific store uses their quiz data should contact that store directly.
4. Why we process data (legal bases)
- To provide the service — operating your account, running quizzes, generating recommendations and analytics (performance of a contract).
- To improve the product — aggregate, anonymised usage analytics (legitimate interests).
- To communicate with you — responding to enquiries, service updates, and pilot programme correspondence (legitimate interests / performance of a contract).
- To meet legal obligations — where we are required to retain or disclose data by law.
We do not sell personal data. We do not use quiz answers to build advertising profiles.
5. Cookies
selectora.io uses a small number of cookies: essential cookies required for the site and sign-in to function, and analytics cookies set by Google Analytics 4. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; essential features may not work without them. The embedded quiz widget uses local browser storage only as needed to run the quiz session and does not set third-party advertising cookies.
6. Who we share data with
We share data only with service providers who help us run Selectora: our hosting provider, Google (analytics), and our payment provider for paid plans. Each processes data under their own safeguards and only on our instructions. We may disclose data if required by law. If Selectora is ever acquired or merged, data may transfer to the new operator under this same policy.
7. International transfers
Some of our service providers (such as Google) process data outside the UK. Where this happens, transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or adequacy regulations.
8. How long we keep data
- Account data is kept while your account is active and deleted or anonymised within 90 days of account closure, unless we must keep it longer for legal or accounting reasons.
- Quiz response data is retained while the merchant's account is active and deleted when the merchant deletes the quiz or closes their account.
- Analytics data is retained according to our Google Analytics settings (14 months).
9. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to its processing, and receive a copy in a portable format. To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@selectora.io. We will respond within one month. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) if you believe we have mishandled your data.
10. Children
Selectora is a business tool and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves. We will post the updated version here with a new "last updated" date, and notify account holders of material changes by email.
